Sunday morning run

Feeling in a less than jogging like frame of mind, instead of heading for Bukit Gombak, went straight across Brickland Road to run by the long kang & then turned left into some still (tho very partially) forested area open to public. Rewarded with a variety of trees and plants none of whose name I know. A red and white wild flower on a plant I've never seen before and a profusion of very pale purple primrose morning glory type flowers growing on the floor.

I have been able to identify the butterfly that flew straight into my path as I raced up one of the slopes on my way back: a Malayan eggfly with dew on its chocolate wings with a distinctive double row of white spots.

While a fairly open space on could hardly call it natural and how long will it be here? Deforestation and roads ready for monster trucks...on the ground sections of tiled walls or floor? I felt like an archaeologist several centuries from now excavating an hdb site - near the roadway I stopped by a tiny stream feeding the long kang and tried to get down to the water. collapsing part of the bank in the process. Water oily and red-orange - is this a natural feature? - formerly grey rocks were covered with a thick layer of red sediment from the water. It all seemed a little like a symphony in orange: a fairly big dragon fly type creature with a bright orange body along with the blossoms on the nearby trees. Need to get a flowers, plants and trees of Singapore book[s] woefully ignorant of the whole ecolgical context.

Must reacquaint myself with this spot even earlier in the day - even by eight - now all the trees have been chopped down I felt like Robert Bloomfield in the tropics - "Barnham Water needs a shade".
